JAS P WILSON
YARD MASTER

WHEN considering biomass handling solutions, in particular hydraulic attachments for excavators, Jas P Wilson offers an incredibly versatile 2-in-1 attachment to greatly improve the process of timber handling, unloading, grading, loading and feeding of secondary machinery, in addition to splitting down oversized timber.

Dubbed “The Yard Master”, its name refers to its key focus, delivering a solution designed to master the process of timber handling within a yard setting – either a firewood producer’s yard, a sawmill, farmyard or within a biomass processing plant.

The real benefit to incorporating this machine into your processing set-up is, firstly, the attachment’s ability to split down oversized timber with ease. The cone screws into the timber, and the opening created follows the timber grain to split the timber in long lengths. These narrow long lengths are key to the popularity of this form of splitting, over cutting timber into rings, as this process keeps the length which allows for fast and effective secondary processing either through a woodchipper or firewood processor. This allows the operator to process the timber into chips or logs without the need to increase the capacity of their secondary processing set-up; there is no longer an issue with “over-sized” timber, as it can all be broken down to fit through.

Secondly, as it can lift and reposition timber, it is the perfect tool to feed machinery or load/unload, as it can easily handle varied timber, even ungraded loads, and quickly deliver a uniform material to the secondary machine.

The Yard Master is available in two models, with a standard unit for five-tonne-plus excavators and an “XL” model suited to getting the most from a 13-tonne-plus base machine.

FUELWOOD
HEIZOHACK

HEIZOHACK is one of the leading European brands in the forestry and biomass machinery market. Based in Bavaria, Germany, it has been producing chippers since 1989.

All Heizohack chippers have letterbox-type infeed openings with aggressive top and bottom infeed rollers. This means that they are all capable of processing twisted timber and taking in brash. The ability to process virtually any timber, coupled with their simple, mechanical, tank-like build quality and the vast range of machines, has made Heizohack chippers a firm favourite amongst biomass contractors producing chip to sell, boiler owners who wish to produce chips for their use, site-clearance contractors, and tree surgeons alike – as there is a model of Heizohack chipper to suit every requirement.

The chippers also have an impressive appetite, the larger models within the range capable of producing more than 50 tonnes of perfect-grade biomass woodchip per hour.

Typically, the hand-fed range caters for people producing their own biomass chip or country estates looking to maintain their land and use the chip as a source of heating.

The popular model from the hand-fed range is the HM6-300VM. This hand-feed Heizohack drum chipper comes on a 3.5-tonne galvanised tandem chassis manufactured by AL-KO. It is powered by a Caterpillar engine in emission class Tier V.

The chipper is constructed on a swing bearing which rotates 270° and can therefore be positioned individually for the chipping material.

Recently introduced in the largest HM14-860KTL and HM14-860KL truck-mounted version is the new six-blade rotor design. The new rotor has six large blades instead of the 14-blade version, which allows more output and produces a chunky, uniform chip which power stations require.

DOYLE MACHINERY
UFKES GREENTEC PANTHERA

THE Panthera features a robust John Deere engine with a capacity of up to 900 hp. The Panthera can efficiently convert logs into consistent wood chip in seconds. Interchangeable baskets can give a chip size ranging from 50 cm to 90 cm. Ufkes prides itself on providing customizable machinery tailored to meet clients’ needs, with the Panthera illustrating its success. This versatile unit can be mounted on tracks, a three-axle semi-trailer, container chassis (hooklift), or used as a stand-alone mounted unit.

How does it work? Here’s a simple breakdown ...
From the spacious XXL cab, the operator controls the Palfinger Wood Crane to collect a batch of logs, which are then placed on the infeed table. Here, four Hardox steel infeed rollers – two sides, and two main – compress green waste and logs effortlessly into the chipper. The Panthera can handle soft and hard logs up to 10 m in length and up to 90 cm in diameter.

The Ufkes venturi airflow system ensures that wood chips are channelled directly into the suction blower. Centrifugal force guides the chips to the blower’s outer section, where they are forcefully discharged from the chute. Three augers transport any remaining material from the infeed chain and beneath the drum to the blower, helping to maintain cleanliness beneath the machine and consistent material discharge.

This process is efficient and designed with the operator’s safety and comfort in mind. The XXL cab features air conditioning, advanced controls, and ergonomic seating, creating a pleasant environment for extended operation. Ample windows and strategically placed cameras ensure excellent visibility, enabling the operator to monitor the chipper’s performance and surroundings continuously.

Apart from its impressive performance, the Panthera is engineered for longevity. The machine’s robust construction and high-quality materials mean it can endure the challenges of daily use in demanding settings. Routine maintenance is simplified with accessible service points and clear upkeep instructions, ensuring the Panthera remains in optimal condition for years to come.
