A military-style SUV said to be the perfect partner for hard work in the forest has hit the UK market.

The MWM Spartan by MW Motors is based on a UAZ-469, first made in 1971 in the Soviet Union. Described as being time-proven and army-tested, even in the hardest conditions, the Spartan features a 135 hp 2.7-litre engine, offering 210 Nm of torque.

Extra equipment, including a front winch bumper and extreme heavy-duty chassis-mounted sliders, is also available.

The Spartan’s interior might be considered plain, MW Motors says, but the fact that it can be hose-sprayed is a massive advantage to those using the car in the forest. The dashboard is minimalistic and functional, with gauges in the centre, mechanical transfer lever and handbrake. Analogue is the main choice, as well as a turn-key ignition.

The five-door Spartan features five seats with enough back space to stow work kit or recovery equipment. The rear seats can also be fully folded, offering extra cargo space.

The MWM Spartan is brought to the UK market by MW Motors. The company has already made its mark thanks to a stylish old-timer Luka EV with in-wheel hub motors. Owner Maurice Ward, an Irish entrepreneur living in the Czech Republic, founded MWM in 2017 with the goal of making special niche cars.

The Spartan is available for a fraction of the price of other 4x4 vehicles, MWM says, and can be bought directly at a UK branch.
