MAELOR Forest Nurseries has announced the appointment of Mark Appleton as its new managing director.

Mark, who took up his post on 18th November 2020, will take over the day-to-day running of the nursery from long-standing managing director and founder, Mike Harvey.

Mike, who was pivotal to the successful acquisition of Maelor by BSW Timber in 2019, will be retiring in 2021.

The pair will be working in tandem over the coming months to ensure a smooth transition is achieved.

Mark brings with him many years’ experience operating at a senior level, notably holding the role of managing director at biomass fuel supplier MWF before its purchase by AMP Clean Energy in 2016.

Tony Hackney, CEO, BSW Timber Group, said: “We are very pleased to appoint Mark as a successor to Mike Harvey. Mark brings a wealth of skills to this business and his commercial acumen will be a huge benefit as we continue to grow the Maelor Nursery operation.”

Mark Appleton added: “This is a tremendously exciting time for commercial forest nurseries, and Maelor in particular, with their new, innovative ideas emerging from their considerable investment in science and production.

“Maelor’s core aim is to continue to develop and improve the tree stocks and services it offers customers, enabling us all to succeed in building a sustainable and vibrant forestry sector in the UK with all the environmental benefits that flow from this.

“I am delighted to have this opportunity to play a role in achieving a greener future for us all.”
