TREE improvement charity Future Trees Trust is holding its Annual Supporters' Day as an online webinar this May.

The theme of the online event is 'Breathing new life into our woodlands' and will feature an update on the charity's work improving British broadleaved trees, with presentations from a new generation of forest researchers.

The opening address will be made by Sir William Worsley, chair of the Forestry Commission, former chair of the National Forest Company and previous government national tree champion.

Presentations will include:

  • An overview of Future Trees Trust – Jo Clark, head of research.
  • Understanding the Drivers of Oak Masting in the UK – Ryan McClory – PhD student at the University of Reading.
  • State-of-the-Art Drought Study Using Juvenile Oak – Sam Henderson, research engineer, University of Surrey.
  • Research and Practice: Crossing Disciplines and Sharing Knowledge – Jonas Brandl, inaugural Patsy Wood Trust scholar.
  • Patsy Wood Scholarship: Life as Assistant Forest Manager in Southern England – James Cryer, current Patsy Wood Trust scholar.
  • A Tale of Two New Projects at Future Trees Trust – Joe Beesley – Future Trees Trust researcher.
  • Special Thanks – Tim Rowland, chief executive officer, Future Trees Trust.

The presentations will be followed by a Q&A session.

Tim Rowland, chief executive officer, Future Trees Trust, commented: “It’s a shame that once again this year, we can’t meet physically, mingle freely and take time out to look at some beautiful trees together, but we’re hoping that our webinar may attract supporters that might not have been able to attend a physical meeting.

“It’s been a challenging year for us all, but there’s some great stuff to on which to update our supporters and I urge anyone that has an interest in our work to come along.”

The event starts at 10:30 am on Wednesday May 19th. It is free to attend and you can book your place here.
