THE UK Woodland Assurance Standard (UKWAS) company is looking for a new chair.

A not-for-profit organisation, UKWAS fulfils the role of the standard-setting body charged with developing a forest management certification standard for the UK.

The duties of the chair would be to assist with the general business of UKWAS, chair the steering group, the administrative board, and the UKWAS company.

A statement from UKWAS read: "The board is looking for someone with the ability to be an effective and neutral chair.  Knowledge of forest certification and/or the role of UKWAS is highly desirable.

"The chair would work closely with Fiona Angier of Confor (secretary) and Peter Wilson (retained consultant), both of whom are paid for two days per month for UKWAS work.

"The chair would also work with the UKWAS board comprising directors – John Deakin, Elaine Dick and Stuart Wilkie."

This is not a paid position, but the successful candidate would be offered an honorarium of about £1,000 per year, together with expenses for travel and accommodation if necessary.

To apply, write to Fiona Angier – ukwas@ukwas.org.uk – with a CV and covering letter by end of April 2024.

Meanwhile, there is still time remaining to apply to be the Scottish Forestry Trust's new executive director. Potential candidates have until Friday to send their CV in.

Current incumbent Amanda Bryan wrote on LinkedIn: "It is with very mixed feelings that I have decided to step down from my role as executive director of The Scottish Forestry Trust later this year.

"It has been a fantastic role and perfect for a wide range of people either with or without forestry experience including those with a portfolio career or anyone seeking a part time opportunity.

"The chance to help shape and grow the Trust working with a bunch of interesting and supportive Trustees who are committed to the organisation is another plus."
