A man who injured his head with an axe at the Royal Welsh Show was back the next day, show organisers have confirmed.

The man was injured on Monday (July 22) while competing in the Wood Chopping competition in the axe ring as the show kicked off.

Reports from the show indicate the man managed to strike his own head with the blade of the axe while taking part in the competition – leading to injuries to his ear and scalp.

However, the show have confirmed he was not badly injured and was immediately treated by medical staff.

They also confirmed that the man was back in attendance at the show in Llanelwedd the next day on Tuesday.

A spokesperson for the Royal Welsh Show said: “The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society can confirm that a competitor was injured on Monday 22nd July in the Forestry Area.

“Medical services attended the scene promptly and we are pleased that the competitor returned to the showground yesterday (July 23).”
