New Coronation Street producer Kate Brooks has warned fans to brace for a number of "unexpected" exits which will send "shockwaves" through the show.

Brooks began her new role on Corrie earlier this year having spent six years (2018 to 2024) as producer of fellow ITV soap Emmerdale.

Her first credited Coronation Street episodes began airing in recent weeks, and now she has opened up about what fans can expect from the show in 2025.

Coronation Street boss warns of "unexpected" exits

Brooks, speaking to The Sun, revealed there will be several "unexpected" exits on Corrie in the new year.

She said: "There are a few exits this year, and some unexpected ones that will send shockwaves.

"People might not expect the exits, but there are a few."

New and returning characters to feature on Coronation Street in 2025

While there will be some unexpected ends, a range of new and returning characters are set to appear on Coronation Street in the new year, according to Brooks.

Villain Rob Donovan is set to make his Coronation Street comeback in 2025, with actor Marc Baylis having already returned to filming.

"He made mistakes. He comes back to the show and we think he might be a reformed character who has seen the error of his ways, but whether that’s the case or not, I don’t know!

"He definitely comes back and causes a lot of trouble for Carla and Lisa.

"Just when Carla and Lisa think it’s safe to sit down and watch Netflix, Rob Donovan comes along and scuppers all of that.

"So, it’s a big story for them and a big story for Rob. Lots of twists and turns.”

Meanwhile, Brooks is also set to introduce a character first mentioned on Coronation Street nearly 40 years ago - Kevin and Debbie Webster’s brother Carl.

While Carl has been mentioned on Corrie before, he has never appeared on screen.

Brooks explained: "We’ve got Carl Webster coming into the show, who is Debbie and Kevin’s brother, to build up that Webster clan.

“We’ve got big stories coming up for Debbie and Kevin. It’s about building that clan up. For me, the Websters, Barlows and Platts are the big clans.”

Coronation Street fans, according to The Sun, can also expect a new family, a house fire stunt and a knife crime storyline in 2025, and that's just in the first few months.
