The BBC has confirmed the start date of a new series for the popular drama Call the Midwife in the new year.

The drama set in Poplar, London first aired on the BBC in 2012 and was originally based on the books by Jennifer Worth and her time as a midwife in the East End of London during the 1950s.

Since then, Call the Midwife has reached global audiences and has been renewed until at least 2026.

For the Christmas season, fans of the BBC show are being treated to a two-part Christmas special which will be followed up by series 14 of Call the Midwife.

A new series of Call the Midwife typically airs in early January, and 2025 sees no change with the BBC confirming the drama will air on Sunday, January 5 on BBC One at 8pm.

Ahead of the new series, fans are being that they can expect favourite characters to return and see how the midwives prepare to enter the 1970s.

Previously, social media posts from Call the Midwife hinted that an “important scene” was being filmed that is set to make viewers cry, according to Radio Times.

But before the new series kicks off, viewers of Call the Midwife will be able to watch the two-part Christmas special on Christmas Day and on Boxing Day on BBC One or BBC iPlayer.

The festive addition will see the midwives face more deliveries and enjoy a fun fair that visits Poplar over the Christmas period.
