FORESTER / WOODSMAN
Job description
This role carries out various hands on forestry operations, including maintaining trees, practical forestry harvesting from chainsaw tree felling and forest machinery extraction operations to the highest standards.
To carry out a full range of practical tasks associated with commercial forestry, traditional woodland operations, planting, harvesting, firewood production business and other traditional landed estate husbandry tasks.
Key Responsibilities
• To carry out forestry tasks associated with the establishment and harvesting of forest and parkland trees.
• To support all other tree related work throughout the estate.
• Effective implementation of the duties for firewood production, weighbridge operation and yard operations.
• To occasionally provide driving support for the delivery of firewood and other products.
• Provide the highest standards of reception and service to our guests.
• Maintenance and where appropriate, repair of all chainsaws and machinery in this care to the highest standard.
• Responsible for the complying with all statutory and other legal requirements affecting the area of work, particularly including health and safety at work act.
• Effective and efficient use of all plant, machinery and equipment to ensure maximum output to the highest standards, using the best and safe working practices.
• To maintain all work areas in a neat and tidy condition.
• To occasionally and when seasonally required carry out mechanical tasks associated with firewood production from harvest through to delivery.
About You
We are looking for:
• A full understanding of the commercial and traditional forestry and woodland operational calendar
• A good foundation knowledge of silviculture
• A broad range of consolidated industry specific practical skills
• Formal training certificates for chainsaw and machinery operations
• A full understanding of health and safety
• DVLA Driving Licence
• NPTC Chainsaw Certificate (refreshed with 5 years)
• Experience of working in a commercial forestry environment
• To be able to organise your own work site
• Chainsaw certification and consolidated experience of large tree felling
• Firewood machinery experience
• Agricultural / forestry machinery and vehicle experience
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
• An interest and understanding of the forestry industry and firewood market place.

Your contract
This is a permanent role with a full-time 39 hour contract. Working days will be predominantly Monday – Friday, but with some flexibility to work weekends, evenings and bank holidays & events if and as required.
