WORKING HEAD FORESTER

RTS Forestry is the leading independent Forest Management Company operating throughout Scotland and Northern England. We are seeking a Working Head Forester to support and deliver our forest management and harvesting activities.

You will want to work for us if you are practically minded with a good problem-solving ability and take pride in delivering high quality works on the ground. Our clients range from large Deeside Estates to small-scale farm woodland owners. The advertised position is based within our growing Aboyne Office, working throughout the north east of Scotland, often in the stunning surrounds of Deeside and the Cairngorms National Park.

The role
Working Head Forester will be a dynamic role, providing the necessary assistance to ensure that a developing work programme is delivered out of the Aboyne office to the highest standards as smoothly as possible. Training to fill any skills gaps and a tailored career development plan will be provided.

Responsibilities will include:
• General maintenance and work to support work programme (transport of materials, ordering of stock etc)
• On the ground forestry operations (planting, spraying etc)
• Supervision of contractors, including maintaining quality and compiling health and safety documentation
• Assisting with harvesting operations including marking of felling coupes and contractor supervision
• Ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, including maintaining adequate site records
• Forestry surveys, including beat-up assessments and weevil surveys

Essential skills and requirements
• Experience in forestry or related areas
• Full UK driving license
• Good problem-solving skills, and being able to work on your own or as part of a team
• Good understanding of the relevant regulations and safety requirements

Desirable, but not essential
• Experience of supervising contractors to deliver forestry operations
• Pesticides certificates (PA1/PA6)
• Driving licence to tow trailers
• Basic IT literacy
• Awareness of the Forestry Grant Scheme
